Trial experience is important.
When researching judicial candidates, ask these questions:
How many district court trials have they had? Why? Because knowing what evidence is admissible during a trial is a large part of the job. (I have had over 35 judge and jury trials)
What kind of cases were they & how many of each kind? Why? Because a District Court Judge needs a broad range of knowledge. (I have done District Court trials and appeals on construction cases, breach of contract, corporate and partnership disputes, employment contracts, complex real estate cases, deficiency cases, mechanic lien cases, personal injury cases, and a few divorce cases).
Have they ever lectured to attorneys on how to conduct trials? (I have lectured to attorneys multiple times to help them become better attorneys)
